This procedure can produce a dramatic rejuvenating effect by correcting drooping upper eyelids and puffy bags below your eyes – features that make you look older, more tired than you feel, and may even interfere with your vision. Conservative removal of fat and excess skin (and muscle) from the upper and lower eyelids avoids the 'skeletonised' look that makes the eyes appear more deep-set and aged, rather than younger. However, blepharoplasty won't remove crow's feet or other wrinkles, eliminate dark circles under your eyes, or lift sagging eyebrows.
Upper blepharoplasty
While it can add an upper eyelid crease to Asian eyes, it will not erase evidence of your ethnic or racial heritage. In the upper eyelid, the incision is placed within the natural eyelid crease, rendering it nearly invisible once healed. A crescent of excess skin and underlying muscle is removed as well as any bulging fat. Some individuals have heavy or droopy upper eyelids because of descent of the lateral brow. This can be corrected fully or partially with a brow lift.
Lower blepharoplasty and canthopexy suspension
As we age, most people lose some tissue elasticity around the eyes, and the resulting sagging creates a tired, aged appearance. Lower blepharoplasty can help to tighten the area under the eye, removing fat and excess tissue, creating a more youthful look. Having lower blepharoplasty will not eliminate wrinkles from under the eye, although it can make the skin smoother in appearance.
